Grotta di lusso sul Mediterraneo | Luxury cave on the Mediterranean

Il rifacimento della "Cave Suite" è stata completata nel 2015 dallo studio d'architettura PATSIOS architecture+construction. Fa parte di un più ampio progetto  di ristrutturazione dell'intero boutique hotel “1864 The Sea Captain’s House” di Oia (Isola di Santorini, Grecia).
Alla suite si accede da un cortile privato da cui si gode di una vista mozzafiato sul mare, su Caldera e sulle altre isole vulcaniche.
Gli interni esaltano le caratteristiche dell'architettura isolana, con volte ed archi imbiancati a calce, dove la semplicità degli arredi è arricchita da pochi elementi di design o della tradizione locale.
Non vorreste già essere su quella terrazza?

The reconstruction of "Cave Suite" was completed in 2015 by PATSIOS architecture+construction. It's a part of the extended renovation and restoration of the boutique hotel “1864 The Sea Captain’s House”in Oia (Santorini Island, Greece).
The suite is accessed by a private courtyard where you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the sea, of Caldera and of the volcano islands.
The interiors enhance the characteristics of island architecture, with whitewashed vaulted and arches, where the simplicity of the furnishings is adorned with a few design or local tradition elements.

La natura ispira la recinzione | Nature inspires fence

Qualche giorno fa, camminando fra le vie di Parigi, avvicinandomi alla Tour Eiffel da Rue de l'Université, sono passata dal Musée du Quai Branly (museo etnologico dedicato alle arti primitive ed alle civiltà "non occidentali", progettato da Jean Nouvel) e sono rimasta piacevolmente colpita dalla sua recinzione: si fonde e confonde con la vegetazione del giardino creando una barriera che non infastidisce la vista.

Some day ago, walking through the streets of Paris, getting close to the Eiffel Tower from Rue de l'Université, I passed by Musée du Quai Branly (ethnological museum dedicated to primitive arts and "non-Western" civilizations, designed by Jean Nouvel) and I was pleasantly surprised from his fence: it melts and blends with the vegetation of the garden, creating a barrier that doesn't disturb the view.

Un appartamento a Firenze | A Florence apartment

Questo appartamento, sapientemente ristrutturato e arredato dalla designer Ilaria Miani, si trova al quarto piano del seicentesco Palazzo Bartolommei a Firenze.
L'ingresso avviene attraversando un cancello in ferro battuto che chiude un lussuoso atrio neoclassico, con colonne e statue. 
Per raggiungere il quarto piano potete usare l'ascensore, installato di recente.
L'appartamento è composto da un'ampia zona giorno a doppia altezza, con camino e accesso alla terrazza, la splendida cucina in acciaio, cinque camere da letto e sei bagni, oltre all'autorimessa.
Se vi piace, sappiate che potete affittarlo!

This apartment, beautifully restored and furnished by designer Ilaria Miani, is located on the fourth floor of the seventeenth century Palazzo Bartolommei in Florence. 
The entrance is through a wrought iron gate that closes a luxurious neoclassical hall with columns and statues. 
To reach the fourth floor, you can use the elevator, newly installed. 
The apartment consists of a large double volume living area with fireplace and access to the terrace, a beautiful steel kitchen, five bedrooms and six bathrooms, in addition to the garage. 
If you like, you know that you can rent it!

Casa Olivi a Treia | Casa Olivi in Treia

Casa Olivi è una vecchia cascina di Treia (nelle Marche), ristrutturata dagli architetti svizzeri Markus Wespi e Jerome de Meuron, che si può affittare (all'esorbitante prezzo di 600€ a notte...) come casa vacanze.
Si trova su una collina, all'interno di un uliveto di un ettaro, in una posizione privilegiata che domina il paesaggio mozzafiato circostante.
La ristrutturazione ha valorizzato la struttura originale accostandola ad un arredo minimalista di design.
Il colore del legno, della pietra e dei mattoni sono combinati al bianco degli intonaci e degli arredi.
Il risultato è un atmosfera raffinatamente rustica sia all'interno che all'esterno, dove si trovano la piscina e un ampio porticato con cucina e zona pranzo per dodici persone.
Le cinque camere da letto, per un totale di 11 posti letto, hanno tutte bagno privato e aria condizionata.
La cucina in acciaio inox, che contrasta piacevolmente con i materiali tradizionali, è Arclinea.

Casa Olivi is an old farmhouse in Treia (in the Italian Region called Marches), renovated by the Swiss architects Markus Wespi and Jerome de Meuron, which you can rent (at the exorbitant price of 600 € per night...) as a holiday home. 
It is located on a hill, in a grove of an acre, in a prime location overlooking the breathtaking landscape. 
The renovation has enhanced the original structure paralleling it with minimalist design furniture. 
The colors of wood, stone and bricks are combined with the white of plasterwork and furnishings. 
The result is an elegantly rustic atmosphere both inside and outside, where there is a swimming pool and a large porch with kitchen and dining area for twelve people. 
The five bedrooms, for a total of 11 beds, all have private bathrooms and air conditioning. 
The stainless steel kitchen, which contrasts nicely with traditional materials, it is Arclinea.

Un sogno si avvera in Kenia... | A dream comes true in Kenya...

Qui non c'è molto da scrivere: un posto come questo è davvero unico e le immagini dicono già tutto...
Si tratta del Shompole Lodge, un hotel situato su un lato della scarpata Nguruman che domina la Great Rift Valley in Kenia. Si trova vicino ai laghi di Natron e Magadi, dove ci sono i fenicotteri.
Gli edifici sono costruiti con quarzo bianco, legno e paglia mescolando stile africano e interni in stile giapponese.
Ogni camera ha la sua piccola oasi con piscina e una vista mozzafiato.
Purtroppo non ci si può andare attualmente: è chiuso dal settembre 2011 in attesa di trovare accordi con gli abitanti Masai del luogo.

There is not much to write: a place like this is really unique and the pictures say it all... 
This is the Shompole Lodge, a hotel located on Nguruman escarpment side overlooking the Great Rift Valley in Kenya. It is located close to the lakes of Natron and Magadi, where there are flamingos. 
The buildings are constructed with white quartz, wood and straw mixing African style and Japanese-style for interiors. 
Each room has its own little oasis with pool and stunning views.
Unfortunately we can not go now: it is closed from 25th September 2011 in order to find agreements with the locals Masai.

Idee per creare un soggiorno all'esterno | Ideas for an oudoor living room

Oggi vi darò qualche dritta per creare un'area esterna accogliente e vivibile come un vero e proprio soggiorno.

1. Prima di tutto delimitate l'area attraverso la pavimentazione: creando una pedana rialzata in legno, oppure differenziando la pavimentazione rispetto alle zone di transito, oppure mettendo un tappeto o una stuoia per esterni (prossimamente farò un post dedicato ai tappeti per esterni con le marche e i modelli più interessanti).
2. Quindi create intimità attorno alla zona con l'aggiunta di vegetazione: aiuole o vasi con bambù, fiori, piante. Fate attenzione alla scelta delle specie, secondo l'esposizione solare dell'area (soleggiata, ombreggiata o semi-ombreggiata).
3. Potete anche proteggere l'area con un pergolato, un gazebo, una tenda da sole o un ombrellone: valutate se è necessaria una protezione dal sole, dalla pioggia o da entrambi, a seconda del clima della vostra zona e dell'uso che vorrete fare del soggiorno esterno.
4. Quindi dedicatevi agli arredi: servono sedute e tavolini. Le sedute possono essere divanetti, panche con cuscini, poltrone o cuscini da pavimento. Se abitate in una località piovosa, meglio scegliere il tessuto dei cuscini idrorepellente così non dovrete continuamente riporli all'asciutto.
5. Infine pensate all'illuminazione: potete mettere delle lanterne per illuminare solo con candele e creare un'atmosfera elegante e romantica; oppure potreste appendere al gazebo/pergolato una catena di lampade ed ottenere un effetto più giocoso; infine potreste utilizzare arredi luminosi che creano un'atmosfera surreale.

Today I'll tell you a few tips to create a cozy and livable outdoor area, like a real living room.

1. First of all you should border the area with flooring: creating a raised wood platform, or by differentiating the flooring from the one of transit zones, or putting an outdoor carpet or mat (soon I'll post a section dedicated to outdoor rugs with interesting brands and models).
2. Then you have to create intimacy around the area with the addition of vegetation: bamboo beds or pots, flowers, plants. Pay attention to the choice of types, according to solar exposure (sunny, shady or semi-shady).
3. You can also protect the area with pergola, gazebo, awning or umbrella: evaluate if you need a protection from sun, rain, or both, depending on the climate in your area and on the use that you'd like to do of this outdoor living room.
4. Then chose the furniture: you need seats and tables. The seats can be sofas, benches with cushions, chairs or floor cushions. If you live in a rainy location, choose the best water-repellent fabric cushions (so you won't have to continually put them dry).
5. Finally, think about the lighting: you can put lanterns to enlighten only with candles and to create an elegant and romantic atmosphere; or you could hang on the gazebo/arbor a chain of lamps and achieve a more playful effect; finally, you could use bright furnishings that create a surreal atmosphere.

La casa di Patrick Dempsey a Malibu | Patrick Dempsey's Malibu House

Patrick Dempsey (famoso per aver interpretato il ruolo del Dr. Shepherd in Grey's Anatomy) e la moglie Jillian (scultrice) hanno acquistato a Malibu una delle prime case progettate dall'archistar Frank O. Gehry.

La casa fu progettata nel 1968 come residenza e atelier per l'artista Ron Davis. Tuttavia quando la famiglia Dempsey l'acquistò era già stata ristrutturata dai successivi proprietari, che per il parco si avvalsero del landscape designer Scott Shrader.

Per l'arredamento i coniugi Dempsey si sono rivolti alla decoratrice Estee Stanley, che aveva arredato anche la loro precedente abitazione. 

Tonalità naturali, mobili e oggetti d'antiquariato e mobili realizzati su misura caratterizzano gli interni.

All'ingresso, costituito da un ampio pannello vetrato pivotante, c'è una scultura di tubi fluorescenti di Rober Irwin, artista californiano, mentre nell'atrio fa capolino un daybed vintage di Jacques Adnet.

Nel soggiorno due chaise longue verdi di Blackman Cruz fiancheggiano un antico specchio e un tavolino su cui poggia una scultura di Jillian Dempsey.
Nell'area pranzo, con sedie di Lucca Antiques e un tavolo realizzato su misura da Teak Nichols Design, sono esposte alcune foto di Melvin Sokolshy.

Patrick Dempsey (famous for playing the role of Dr. Shepherd of Grey's Anatomy) and his wife Jillian (sculptor) bought one of Frank O. Gehry's first houses in Malibu.

The house was designed in 1968 as a residence and studio for the artist Ron Davis. However, when the family Dempsey bought it, the house had already been restored by other owners, with the help of landscape designer Scott Shrader for the garden.
Mr and Mrs Dempsey call on decorator Estee Stanley for the interior design, because she had already furnished their previous home.
Natural shades, vintage furniture and antiques and custom-made furniture characterize the interiors.
At the entrance, made by a large pivoting glass panel, there's a Robert Irwin's sculpture made with fluorescent tubes while in the atrium peeps a vintage daybed by Jacques Adnet.
In the living room two green chaise longue by Blackman Cruz flank an antique mirror and a small table on which rests a sculpture of Jillian Dempsey.
In the dining room, with chairs of Lucca Antiques and a custom-made table from Teak Nichols Design, some photos made by Melvin Sokolsky are hanging on the wall.
